< Back to listMedia Weekly - Sorry seems to be the hardest word
Francesca Bennett
As we all know, apologies happen a lot in the media, and this week is no exception. Setting aside the Leveson inquiry and all the many celebrities from Max Mosley to the McCanns who would like to hear the word ‘sorry’, here are some other apologies that have happened, and some that maybe should:
- There is coverage in all the papers of the BBC apology for the One Show report which was apparently biased towards the Dale Farm travellers. The Daily Mail’s take on it is here.
- Sacha Baron Cohen is being pressed for an apology for his role in making Staines famous for all the wrong reasons, but, if you believe the local football team maybe it should be the council apologising, as reported in the Telegraph yesterday.
- On Wednesday, Lynx was not saying sorry, despite its adverts attracting more than 100 complaints. As the Huffington Post explains, the five adverts, which were shown on sites including Yahoo, Hotmail and Spotify, showed the glamour model eating an ice lolly, stripping wallpaper or bending over an oven door. Google it if you want to see more.
- According to the Mirror, ITV has this week said that it learnt its lesson and has vowed not to poach any more big names following the Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley disaster.
- Monday saw news in the Sun and the Guardian, of an expensive combination between iPad, Smurf and 4 year old. Am sure he is now on the naughty step…
